IVF Support

Clinical research has shown Acupuncture increases pregnancy rates from Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART), like In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), by more than 50%.

Acupuncture works across all phases of ART intervention: before, during and after, and is useful for both women and men. Treatment helps to create an optimal environment for conception by increasing blood supply to reproductive organs; enhancing sperm health; reducing the effects of stress on reproductive hormones; balancing hormones; thickening the endometrial lining for implantation; relaxing the uterus after embryo transfer or IUI, and more.

The recommended IVF support schedule for women includes Acupuncture treatment(s):

  • Before and during the medication phase of IVF: weekly treatments.
  • At any phase to manage side effects: as needed.
  • After egg collection to prevent or reduce effects of over stimulation and reduce uterine trauma in preparation for the embryo transfer: one treatment soon after collection, or up to two days after.
  • On the day of fresh or frozen embryo transfer: one treatment hours after procedure, and on the same day before transfer if wanted.
  • During the early stages of pregnancy to encourage implantation, maintain the pregnancy hormone levels and reduce anxiety: one treatment per week until 12 weeks.

Acupuncture for Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is similar to IVF support in the early stages.
iui Acupuncture treatments include:

  • One to two treatments in the follicular phase to boost follicle development, encourage blood circulation and the development of a thick endometrial lining.
  • Implantation treatment three to five days after the IUI to encourage embryos to attach and grow.
  • One week after implantation to reduce the chance of miscarriage, and ongoing weekly treatments to 12 weeks.

The recommended schedule for boosting sperm health includes:

  • Up to 3 months before IVF and specimen collection to improve morphology and motility: two to three treatments.
  • Up to 3 months before Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE) to boost the production of sperm in low count candidates: two treatments per week.
  • On the day of specimen collection to reduce anxiety and improve performance: one treatment hours before collection.
