Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique where glass or bamboo cups are placed on the skin with suction to encourage the flow of energy and blood in the body.
Cupping is a non-invasive way to support internal healing from the outside, and as a result works well in conjunction with Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine treatment. The treatment stimulates blood circulation, disperses and moves Qi using suction and pressure. Cupping is useful when the Qi is blocked at certain points, or needs to be drawn to the surface of the body from deep within.
More than one cup may be applied and either left in the same place for several minutes, or moved along meridian pathways. Cupping is a painless treatment but because it draws blood to the surface of the skin, can produce some bruising; however, this is only short-lived.
