Cosmetic Acupuncture is a non-invasive, chemical-free, safe and cost-effective Facial Rejuvenation technique. Its approach is holistic and improves your overall health as well as your appearance, promoting beauty that radiates from within. It holds none of the risks and disadvantages of cosmetic surgery, like lengthy recovery times, potential complications such as scars and infection, high costs and frozen or permanently surprised facial expressions.
Cosmetic Acupuncture has been used as far back as 3000 years to enhance the fabled beauty of empresses and royal women at China’s imperial courts. It has only recently been re-discovered and has become increasingly popular in the US, UK and now in Australia. Cosmetic Acupuncture is an extensive specialty branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and requires specialised knowledge and skill.
how does it work?
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the state of health of our organ and meridian system is directly reflected in our face. Even common sense immediately tells us how well someone feels, just by looking at their face. TCM has developed that knowledge into a sophisticated system of understanding, where wrinkles, sagging or puffiness in specific areas of the face are recognized as directly corresponding to an imbalance in a particular organ system. Cosmetic Acupuncture, also referred to as Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, takes a truly holistic approach by treating underlying imbalances at an organ level with Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as working directly on the face with a variety of techniques such as Acupuncture, facial massage, facial lymph drainage, dermal rolling etc.
Facial Acupuncture increases local blood supply and Qi circulation, thus improving muscle mass and tone, reducing sagging and leaving you to experience a firmer and fuller face. Specific needling techniques stimulate the skin to build new collagen fibres under wrinkles, thereby filling them in. Increased blood supply to the treated areas of the face, ensures healthy cellular metabolism, increases elastine production and strengthens and tightens the skin, making your face feel smooth and radiant. Cosmetic Acupuncture:
• reduces or eliminates wrinkles around eyes (crows feet), mouth and lips, on forehead and between eyebrows
• reduces sagging neck and cheeks
• reduces or eliminates scar tissue, age spots and skin blemishes
• lifts sagging eye lids
• firms bags under the eyes
• increases collagen & elastine production
• increases facial muscle tone
• firms and smoothes the skin
what happens in a treatment?
The initial consultation begins by taking a full case history of past and present ailments. The practitioner uses pulse and tongue diagnosis to differentiate various patterns of disharmony and to determine your state of health. The practitioner will then make a detailed analysis of your face and discuss with you which areas would benefit from treatment.
The actual treatment starts with a facial massage to promote circulation in the face, followed by a gentle treatment with a jade dermal roller to flush the facial lymphatic system and start to tighten muscles and smoothe wrinkles. Another specialized jade tool is applied specifically over the wrinkles to additionally stimulate blood flow. Finally, ultra-fine sterile needles are lightly inserted into the superfical layers of the skin along wrinkles and other problem areas to flush the face with Qi and stimulate elastine and collagen production. Needles are so fine and of premium quality so that they produce none or only minimal discomfort upon insertion. They are left in for approx 30 minutes, leaving you to drift into a state of relaxation. After needles have been removed, a facial lymphatic drainage massage is applied to complete the treatment. Cosmetic Acupuncture does not cause scars, swelling or irritation, enabling you to resume your normal life straight after treatment.
To address the internal causes of facial problem areas, the practitioner will then prescribe an individualized Chinese Herbal formula based on your initial differential diagnosis, as well as provide you with useful life-style suggestions to support your wellbeing.
Please note: If you are suffering from a more severe health complaint, it may not be advisable to have Cosmetic Acupuncture just yet. The body needs a certain amount of available life energy - Qi - to flush and stimulate the face. If health is poor, the body requires this Qi to heal and restore balance. When booking in for an initial consultation, your practitioner will be able to advise you accordingly and may initially recommend a few Acupuncture treatments to improve your health, before starting with Facial Rejuvenation.
